Recent testimony in the Larry Millete murder trial revealed text messages exchanged between Millete and his former supervisor in the days surrounding his wife Maya’s disappearance in January 2021.
The supervisor, Terry Fonville, described their relationship as largely professional despite knowing the couple for years. Messages shown to the jury indicated that on January 6—one day before Maya disappeared—Millete told Fonville he wouldn’t be coming to work due to “too much drama at home” and expressed feelings of hopelessness.
Fonville also shared that he sent Millete Bible verses around that time, although he said he regularly sent such messages and couldn’t recall the exact reason. After Maya was reported missing on January 7, Fonville reached out again; Millete later responded that he was “not too good” and confirmed that Maya was missing and police were at his home.
Additional testimony revealed Fonville emailed Maya on January 8 out of concern for Millete, but she did not respond. During questioning, he appeared uncertain about details and acknowledged he may have deleted some messages before sharing information with investigators.
Overall, the testimony provided jurors with new context about Millete’s mindset and communications immediately before and after his wife’s disappearance—key moments in the ongoing case.
